Nature-inclusive Island Bridges IJburg
In the east of Amsterdam, on the artificial islands of IJburg, Aelbers is connecting the different islands by means of nature-inclusive island bridges. In this project, extra attention is paid to creating more living space for local animals, such as bats. In collaboration with our client Mobilis, we are building the Annemarie Wolff Bridge and the Lee Miller Bridge, which will create the connection between Haveneiland, Centrumeiland and Straneiland.
When constructing these bridges, not only the infrastructure is realised, but also the direct surroundings are included in the design. The construction of the associated pavilions and the entrance to the parking garage are an integral part of the project.
Our input
Together with Mobilis, our skilled workers ensure the realisation of the substructure and the concrete decks, creating a sustainable and functional connection. The bridges are characterised by a steel-concrete construction with a special truss construction of curved tubes. This design choice ensures a modern look and a long lifespan. Each bridge has a unique integration into its environment.
