Sea lock IJmuiden
The name says it all. IJmuiden has a new sea lock. This upgrade to the port area was much needed. By 2029, the Noordersluis would have reached the end of its technical lifespan. Having faithfully served for almost 100 years, it was time for renewal. Another factor was that the size of ocean-going vessels has significantly increased. The new lock will allow these vessels to safely pass through, even at low water levels.
Our input
Together with the contractor consortium OpenIJ, our skilled workers realised the concrete work. A job of enormous magnitude. Exposed to the elements of nature, they created a lock of 500 metres long, 70 metres wide and 18 metres deep. Consortium OpenIJ consisted of BAM-PGGM, DIF and VolkerWessels.
